Tuesday, January 30, 2018

BERKELEY, CA—January 30, 2018 Diversity Abroad is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2018 Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion in International Education (EDIIE), Academic Achievement for Research in Diversity & Inclusion, and Global Student Leadership Awards. This year’s recipients have demonstrated a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusive excellence within international education on an individual, institutional, and organizational level, as well as students who represent Diversity Abroad’s mission to diversify global education.

EDIIE INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:
Leadership (10+ years experience): MINNIE BATTLE MAYES, INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS AND VENTURES IN EDUCATION, LLC

"I am very honored to have been nominated and selected for the EDIIE award. In a career that spans four decades, I have been passionate about global human development. I have sought to serve, educate, mentor and train people to be better global citizens. It has been equally rewarding to provide opportunities for the underrepresented to enter the field of public and educational diplomacy. During the last 20 years we have witnessed great change. More people, who look like me, and have the education and experience, have found more opportunity and reward in this space. The development and growth of an organization like Diversity Abroad, is evidence of some of these changes. I am grateful for the recognition and appreciation that this award represents.” - Minnie Battle Mayes

“Minnie’s career exemplifies excellence in diversity and inclusion in education abroad. As an advocate, Minnie is a champion of expanding global engagement at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Her ability to bring people together to work on strategic solutions is inspiring and an exemplary example to emerging professionals. As a mentor, Minnie has actively nurtured the next generation of professionals of color in the field of international education. I'm ecstatic that she will be honored with this award,” stated Allegra Laing, Study Abroad Coordinator at Elon University.
